Hey, guys! I’m Maegan, and I’m your cook. Behind the scenes is more my style, but I’m excited to continue the “Meet the Team” blog series and introduce myself.
Life in Motion
‘Life in motion’ is the perfect caption for our lives right now. While the days are typical work and school for everyone, our evenings and weekends are a whirlwind of activities, family and friends, supporting our small community, and engaging with kids in our youth group. A couple years ago after entering the school activities on my calendar I told Clayton “We are in the white waters of life, so let’s jump on the raft and enjoy the ride!”
Clayton and I have four pretty cool kiddos, Sadie (16), Jax (15), Jessa (13), and Hadley (10). I had thought these would be hard years with multiple teens in the house, but I gotta say, while challenging at times, it’s an awesome time of life as we get to see them grow into the people God made them to be and really deepen conversations with them to help them think through life.
My life has not been a straight line to where I’m at now, but it’s awesome to look back on it all and see how God was developing things in me that would be the perfect mash-up to equip me for where He has me today. As my place at Tonja’s Toffee has developed over the past year and a half, my role blends the creativity developed from my short, part-time experience as an elementary art teacher, with the precision, cleanliness and efficiency mastered by an education and years spent working as a Registered Dental Hygienist.
While it seems much more official than it should be, Director of Production is my official title. It seems to encompass not just what my job is now, but what I will be as we grow. It means I am responsible for all things involved in producing one of a kind toffee for you. I get to obsess over having a kitchen that is spotless and organized (with a full, lively house this is not usually the case at home, so I love that I have a space where it is quite literally my job). I get to routinely and precisely cook toffee, paying close attention to exact measurements and temperatures. I get to geek out about food science (my poor co-workers are so kind to humor me and listen to all the cool science of fat and sugar interactions). And one of my favorites, I get to blend creativity and science as I work on new toffee varieties and products (more on this one in the coming months, eek!!).
While I initially agreed to this to help Aubrey (my sister-in-law) out part-time, God knew what He was starting and I’m glad for it. He has shown me over the years that what He plans is totally out-of-the-box and amazing!
May your day be filled with sweetness, Maegan
